Tonight I attended my second ever Spin Class at my gym.
I think it was about 3 or 4 weeks ago now that I attended my first and had the worst experience EVER.
Let me dive a little deeper into that night and tell you more about it. . .
I have always been scared to death to try a spin class. I have many friends that rave about them saying how great of a workout you get from them and the time flies by, blah blah blah. But the thought of me cycling in a group of other people who are better than me for an hour not only intimidates me but does not sound fun at all. So I have always let it go to the wayside due to me not being in a gym that offers it.
Alas, I joined a gym that offers it. Rob’s mom encouraged me to give it a go so finally I thought why not and I showed up. The instructor immediately called out
“We got a newbie!” and completely mortified me.
She went on to say that I wasn’t to do anything until she came back to my bike. Long story short she yelled at me from the front of the room repeatedly throughout the entire hour telling me I was going too fast (after she told us to speed up), I wasn’t standing right on the bike (how do you not stand right on a bike?), I didn’t know how to hold my hands on the handle bars (don’t you just hold them?), I was pedaling to slow (You told me I was going to fast!). . .and the list goes on. She would even come over to my bike repeatedly to turn up my resistance telling me that I wasn’t working hard enough. Please tell me how in the world she would know that.
I left that class in the worst mood, vowing I would never go back to a spin class. I thought it was a great workout but who wants to feel like crap, and a complete idiot throughout it? Not this girl!
But tonight . . .
One of my friends walked into the gym while I was on a bike saying she was going to spin class. I thought hey I am already on a bike, why not join her? So I did, because it was a different class with a different instructor.
What a HUGE difference!
I LOVED the experience. She greeted us with a “Welcome!” and we started the class. No yelling, no pointing fingers, no saying people were doing it wrong, no telling me I was going too slow or too fast, she simply told us to pedal faster or turn up the resistance as she should. It was a great workout and I left feeling good. I left feeling that I would go back again and that Spin class had redeemed itself. Woohoo for second chances and better experiences!

Now I am tired, my kids wore me out today with all of their energy and the laughing they had me doing. We were acting out jobs today and they were told to “sweep the floors” so I look over and see one of my girls pretending to “sleep on the floor”.
Way too cute! I love my job!
Have a Happy Hump Day!
Have you ever been to a Spin Class? What was your experience?
When it comes to spin classes (or really any classses!) the instructor makes all the difference. I’ve had great classes and horrible. I think the key to finding what fits your style is to go to a few diff. classes and see who you find most motivating.
Thanks for stopping by!!
I love spin class when the instructor is good, my fav is on Wed night only. He walks around the class encouraging people and handing out waters. Plus he plays good music
I have never taken a spin class, but I would love to try one. If I had an experience like you did, I don’t think I would have ever gone back. Good for you for trying it again.
I can’t believe that an intructor would act like that, that’s crazy! Especially when it’s your first class!
